Who we are and what we do

The Queens International Hockey League is one of the most exciting recreational sports league open to youth in Kingston. With 8 teams and a membership of over 100 athletes there is great hockey to be played each week. The QIHL has also recently forged partnerships with the Kingston Youth Shelter and the Big Brother and Sisters group in Kingston. Over this season, we will be hosting two tournaments to raise food and money for both the Kingston Foodbank and the Kingston Youth Shelter. The QIHL will also be hosting an outreach event with Big Brother and Sisters group in Kingston this year as well.

The first tournament that we will host is called 'Hockey for Hunger'. This tournament is exclusive to the members of the QIHL. Each team from the QIHL will compete in a one day tournament, but will be require each participant to bring in some non - perishable food items. To add some incentive for teams to bring in the most food items, the team that brings in the most food items will receive an additional two points towards their regular season point total. All food items will go towards the hamper program run by Foodbank.

The second tournament that we will be hosting is open to anyone who is able to join. There will be a limit to the amount of teams that are able to join, but each team must pay an entrance fee for the tournament. All profits from this event go towards the Kingston Youth Shelter and will be used to purchase supplemental groceries.

The final event that we will be hosting is an outreach event with Big Brothers and Sisters. For this day we will be working with the children from Big Brothers and Sisters and mentor them on the fundamental skills of hockey. We will be providing all of these children with their own hockey stick to take home with them so that they can continue to practice after this event. The second half of this event will include a fun hockey game between everyone involved.
